Global State of Information Security (2015)

PricewaterhouseCoopers reports that the number of cyberattacks grew by 48% in 2014 — a sharp increase from the previous year. Security consultants predict that there could be more than 42.8 million cyberattacks in 2015 or about 117,000 attacks per day. The number of companies that reported $20 million or more in losses after a cyberattack nearly doubled from 2013. Retail giant Target found costs upwards of $150 million from a data breach that occurred during the 2013 holiday shopping season. Security software vendor Kaspersky Lab estimated that an average data security event costs a company $720,000.
